The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening je první titul série vydaný na přenosné konzoli a jediný díl Zelda pro původní Game Boy. Hratelnost je podobná předchůdci s pohledem shora, avšak v dungeonech se vyskytují krátké pasáže s bočním pohledem a plošinovkovými prvky. V tomto novém dobrodružství musí Link projít každým ze 7 chrámů, aby získal hudební nástroj pomáhající probudit Wind Fish. Cestou prohledává krajinu a nachází skryté poklady a předměty umožňující mu pokračovat v cestě. Od svého vydání je Link's Awakening oblíbený u fanoušků i kritiků.
