Saints Row: The Third je první hra ze série Saints Row odehrávající se ve městě Steelport. Stejně jako první dvě hry se příběh točí kolem Saints ničících a absorbujících tři rivalské gangy a přebírajících kontrolu nad městem. V Saints Row: The Third jsou těmito gangy Morningstar, Luchadores a Deckers. Na rozdíl od předchozích dvou her jsou všechny tři gangy řízeny zločineckou organizací zvanou The Syndicate, se kterou se Saints musí také vypořádat.
